Important Dates
The Deadline is the day the client requests to have the commission in their hands by. It may be set weeks in advance of the day the client intends to wear the cosplay. It is strongly recommend the client not set this day the same week the play to wear it.
The Shipping Deadline is set 2 weeks before the Deadline for domestic packages and 4 weeks before the Deadline for international packages.
The Completion Deadline is set 3 weeks before the Deadline for domestic orders and 5 weeks before the Deadline for international packages.
Pricing & Payments
Materials are calculated at the current retail price.
Labor is calculated based on the estimated yardage and projected difficulty. I start at 20¢ a yard for a primarily machine knitted work and 30¢ a yard for primarily hand knitted work. Adjustments will be made for complicated color-work and textures.
Yardage will be calculated using the same tools I use to draft the pattern
Shipping will be determined after the commission is completed and weighed. When choosing between by weight or flat rate, the more economical option will be picked. Shipping will not exceed an appropriately sized USPS Priority Mail flat rate box.
Materials and 50% of Labor make up the Deposit and must be paid within 3 days of signing a contract. Failure to pay will null the contract. The Deposit is non-refundable except for circumstances outlined in these terms.
Shipping and 50% of Labor must be paid before the final payment date outlined in the contract. Payment plans can be negotiated. No commission will be shipped until paid in full.
All sweater commissions with deposits paid within 8 weeks of the Deadline for domestic orders (10 weeks for international) are automatically subject to rush pricing of an additional 10¢ per yard. Rush pricing for non-sweater commissions or commissions with multiple pieces are at the discretion of Plays With String.
Placing an Order
Requests are made though this form.
Reference photos, and deadline, and measurements (in inches/cm) are required to give an accurate quote.
Once the quote is accepted, a photo of your ID will need to be sent to confirm you are of legal age to sign a contract in the USA. After confirming you are 18, a contract will be drafted to according to the commission’s needs. The Deposit is due, in full, within 3 days of signing.
Queue and Construction
All commissions are queued according to their Deadlines and a commission could be delayed or interrupted at any time. Client is welcome to reach out via email to inquire about their commission’s status with the understanding that they have set their own deadline and as long as the deadline is met, the commission is not late.
Clients will receive photos of the purchased materials as well as significant milestones in the construction. (For a sweater this will include the front, the back, each sleeve, the hem, the cuff, the collar, and a finished photo.) Clients may express a concern at any time, but the longer any concern is left unsaid, the harder it will be to fix. Completing all payments implies approval of the final result.
Shipping
All commissions are shipped with a tracking number and insured by a 3rd-party of my choosing and at my expense.
Lost and Damaged Packages
Refunds for lost and damaged commissions due to shipping will be issued after we have filed a claim with the shipping insurance.
Packages are considered “lost” if they are missing >20 days for domestic or >40 days international. Client will need to sign an affidavit confirming the loss.
Client has 7 days after delivery to let me know if the package arrived damaged. Client must supply photos and sign an affidavit for an insurance claim.
Refunds
No refunds will be offered for the following:
- Client termination of the contract.
- Improper fit due to inaccurate measurements. Due to the nature of knitting, I can do repairs but I cannot undo seams and re-size a garment. It is imperative that you give me accurate measurements.
- Commissions that remain unpaid 60 days after the Deadline become my property to do as I wish, including selling them to another interested party. No refunds to the original client will be given.
- "Taking too long." As long as all deadlines are met, it's not late.
- Late packages caused by shipping delays on rush work (especially if express shipping options are refused). This is an additional risk you take on when time is short.
- Delays caused by harassment, ghosting, or late payments.
- Damage to the commission caused by client’s negligence.
Full or partial refunds will be considered for the following:
If I terminate the commission, you will either
- receive a full and complete refund if you don't want the materials and work
- the remaining 50% labor fee waived if you would like the work and materials shipped to you as-is. (Shipping is still required)
I reserve the right to terminate the contract at any time for any reason.
